From the supplier: A case report is presented of an 8-year-old girl with severe mental illness who was successfully treated with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). ECT was first used in 1934 to induce seizures as a treatment for schizophrenia. ECT use declined in the 1950's when drugs were developed to treat mental illness but staged a comeback in the 1970's. It is safe and effective in adults but there are few reports of its use in children.
