Excellent guide for new ADHD parents! August 26, 2009 A. Lents (Indianapolis, IN) My son was just diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago so during my deer-in-headlights phase, I really needed something that would give me the answers to all the questions I had without slant or bias. ("Medicine is WONDERFUL!" or "Medicine is HORRIBLE!!" That kind of thing.) This book does a wonderful job of that. It touches on all the various aspects of the disorder and how parents can help navigate their child through this challenging diagnosis. I highly recommend that every doctor who is telling a parent that their child has ADHD prescribe this to the parents!
This is old school, meant to sell drugs...... August 20, 2009 John S. Mcgrath (Minneapolis, MN) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I know from personal experience as well as reading the book, this is just a propaganda book for putting kids on medication. There are kids who have ADHD, probably about 10% of those actually diagnosed. Exercise, Diet, structure, that is what the kids who do not have ADHD are missing when misdiagnosed. Even some kids with less serious cases of ADHD can be treated properly with exercise, diet, and structure/routine. The industry is selling us a story to sell drugs and many parents are using the drugs to escape accountability and an unwillingness to put in the effort it takes to be the parent your child needs you to be for them. I suggest reading"The Great Misdiagnosis ADHD" by Julian Stuart Haber, MD. It is far more honest and enlightening.
When a medical doctor is trying to claim he is an expert on health and wellness and he or she is 100-200 pounds overweight and in very poor health, how is that they should even be taken seriously?
